Simple Job

Everytime I read or hear about forgiveness, I am reminded that it is not something I am allowed to withhold. It is my duty as a Christian to give it willingly. It doesn't matter what I feel like doing or even what the offense was. I have to forgive. Ephesians 4:32 instructs us to forgive just as we have been forgiven. Sounds easy rolling off the tongue. It even sounds easy before you have been sinned against. But, in the moment, it is not quite as easy, at least for me. My intentions are usually well meaning, however, somewhere between my intentions and my actions, the signals get crossed.

Lately, I have found myself hoping in my heart that God will grant me the mercy I definitely don't deserve. My job is easy. It is simply to offer the balm of forgiveness. Simple in theory. What about in the execution? Only time will tell.

So true! And yet the simplest of things can be the most profound. God chose the foolishness of preaching to confound the wise. He used simple fisherman to launch his turn the world upside down outreach. Usually it is the simple things that we enjoy most in life. These are the things that we most often take for granted. The love of friend, a word fitly spoken and the grace and mercy offered in forgiveness. So undeserved, yet so needed. So easy to receive, yet so hard to give. So costly yet obtainable to the littlest of these. This is the simple truth of the gospel. Thanks for give me something to ponder through my fingers.
